At least four migrant detainees broke out of a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement detention center in Newark where a riot broke out among inmates who attempted to take over the facility, according to sources and reports.
Multiple migrants escaped from Delaney Hall Detention Facility after as many as 50 inmates staged a revolt and pushed down a wall of a dormitory room, NJ.com reported.
The detainees were supposedly sent into a rage by their dissatisfaction over the quality and timeliness of the meals at Delaney Hall, that outlet reported.
A manhunt is currently underway for the escaped detainees who were last seen running near Turnpike 78 and Delancey Street in Newark, according to the local publication.
Earlier Thursday, three-dozen people held a protest outside Delaney Hall, which has been an inflection point in the political debate over ICE with several House Democrats allegedly breaking into the facility last month.
